— We consider a mathematical model of the Fermi theory of weak interactions as patterned according to the well-known current-current coupling of quantum electrodynamics. We focuss on the example of the decay of the muons into electrons, positrons and neutrinos but other examples are considered in the same way. We prove that the Hamiltonian describing this model has a ground state in the fermion...
متن کاملLogos and Ethos: The Civil Religion in the Political Philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau
This article explores the concept of civil religion from the perspective of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. It starts with a discussion of the essence of sovereignty as the implementation of general will, which, the author explains, is manifested in the obedience of the laws. The article then discusses the way in which, in Rousseau’s view, institutional mechanisms work and thereupon explores how he envi...
متن کاملSpectral Theory for a Mathematical Model of the Weak Interaction---Part I: The Decay of the Intermediate Vector Bosons W
We consider a Hamiltonian with cutoffs describing the weak decay of spin 1 massive bosons into the full family of leptons. The Hamiltonian is a self-adjoint operator in an appropriate Fock space with a unique ground state. We prove a Mourre estimate and a limiting absorption principle above the ground state energy and below the first threshold for a sufficiently small coupling constant. As a co...

متن کاملOn Effective Hamiltonians for Adiabatic Perturbations of Magnetic Schrödinger Operators
We construct almost invariant subspaces and the corresponding effective Hamiltonian for magnetic Bloch bands. We also discuss the question of the dynamics related to the effective Hamiltonian. We assume that the magnetic and electric potentials are slowly varying perturbations of the potential of a constant magnetic field and a periodic lattice potential, respectively.
